the streets are going to change. they are putting in a huge arch. the with that they have reconfigured this street each will try to bring traffic near more businesses. grant has more of the details. >> it is called the route 238 improvement project and the city of hayward was nice enough to insure this fancy animation. to share this. interstate 580 itself and industrial parkway. downtown hayward is the loop. this will be one way. up and around and back again and start at fort hill and to mission other changes. the one-way traffic started a few moments ago. they have been adjusting and the $100 million project should be completely ready by monday morning. crews will be busy all weekend making some big changes to traffic in downtown hayward. some roads are being turning into one way streets. it's called the hayward loop. the changes could help businesses. the height of the project. they're hoping the changes will make it easier for people to shop. as we prepare for the saint patricks day festivites. set to fall on a sunday this year. officers all across the bay area want to remind driver

of townbut, local merchants are hoping the new sub station and the 24 officers who work here will help change that. suphi helim has owned this store on sixth street for the last 30 years and has seen it all. a lot of drug dealing, a lot of crime, a lot of stabbing, a lot of shop lifting, a lot of pick pocketing. suphi says he has noticed the increase in police since the station opened up on thursday. adel awadella just opened his pizza shop on sixth street and couldn't be happier with the sub station. yeah, they are walking around all over.daytime, i see them walking around back and fourth all over and there was a robbery here today and they were all over it. most people are happy with the station being in the neighborhood. >> do you feel safer knowing that the cops are right across the street? >> it's more safe but i wish they were open 24 hours. they're not. >> reporter: that seems to be the biggest complaint. people say it's great to have the station here, and they have noticed a difference already but the station closes at 10:30 at night. the merchants in the area are hoping the hours wi

in recent years san jose's adam rocks school district has season little change. but dan tells us that's about a change. >> reporter: after holding off on making cuts students in the alam rock school district will face dramatic cut backs as the district has to reduce it's spending by $8 million over the next two years. >> as a result of the state recession we're getting significantly less money per student 1500 less per student for what the state gain feed us. we've been declining guaranteed us. laying off 80 teachers. increasing class size from 24 to 20. music and after school sports programs would likely see cut backs too. plans to close two elementary schools. rogers which you see here and slonacer. rogers kids were tranfered to ryan elementary. slonacer kids were tranfered to hubbard elementary. the cuts should not impact student performance which has been on the rise. >> we have wonderful teachers. they're going to continue doing the great job and the good news is that the state of the economy is improving. the governor has a proposal that will bring additional revenue to us. once

to make the change permanent. bart might also be considering expanding service in the east bay. possibly as far north as hercules. kron 4's charles clifford has details and shows us where the new train routes could run. r district 7 bart board member zakhary mallet is floating the idea of buil lines north fre city of richmond as a way to relieve chronic traffic congestion along interstate 80. let's take a look at a google earth map of the area. right now the richmond station, which is here in the middle of the city, is the northern most stop on the richmond-fremont bart line. the idea would be to extend that line to the north parrell to the path of nearby interstate 80. along that route, new bart stations could be added in san pablo here near the richmond hilltop shopping centers... further north in pinole... and there could even be service all the way to hercules... if not further... now, none of this is even close to being a done deal. i spoke with a bart spokeperson today who said that this is just one of many ideas and projects the transit agency is considering. there are no artist r

. i'm cristina mutchler for kron 4 news. >> changes coming with a nice day for tomorrow. hundreds of guns turned in today at yet another gun buy back, this time in san jose. kron 4's mike pelton shows us why this one comes with some controversy. the f-b-i is asking for the public's help in identifying a serial bank robber in the east bay. dubbed the "button down bandit". he's accused of robbing a chase bank in palos verdes mall in walnut creek on march sixth. and a wells fargo bank on this is video taken from denver, colorado. the national weather service says denver could see up to seven inches of snow today. adding on to the ten to fifteen inches of snowfall that has already fallen. a little ways north of denver travelers along interstate 25 were stopped cold by a major crash. the colorado state police says that as many as 20 to 50 vehicles were involved in the accident. including a semi-tanker that caught on fire. meanwhile in the eastern part of the state. white-out conditions forced the closure of nearly 150-miles of interstate 70 from denver to the kansas state line. an alre

and what could be changing in the not so distant future. >> reporter: by now somebody has probably told you if you're thinking of flying in march, forget about it because you'll have to deal with longer security lines and flight delays. but the fact of the matter is, you will likely see very little impact during the month of march here's why the delays will be begin when airport workers are furloughed but you can't furlough federal workers without a 30-day notice and that hasn't happened yet, so that means at least until april 1st there will be a full compliment of air traffic controllers, customs agents and tsa security screeners what happens after april 1st? if those furloughs happen, then you will likley see delays. i'm talking about longer lines to get through airport security and customs. federal officials say that delay could be 30 to 40 minutes. the f.a.a. says during peek travel times, you might also see flight delays of up to 90 minutes into major cities like san francisco but again, that's at least not until april. the only impact you might see before that is on an extremely busy
